I do not own this image. I edited the image in Canva.
Ever since she released folklore in June, I have been on a Taylor Swift binge. While Red is my favorite album of Taylor's, folklore has come very close to being second or even tied for first place. In honor of her eighth studio album, I decided it would be fun to finally listen to all of her discography! So today, I have her seventh album, titled Lover

Lover was released on August 23, 2019. I actually listened to this album the day after it came on Spotify and it was such a departure from reputation. I ended up enjoying it, but not loving it. However, certain songs have become all time favorites for me.

1. "I Forgot That You Existed"

  • "Free rent living in my mind"
  • "How many days did I spend thinking / Bout how you did me wrong, wrong, wrong"
  • Eh, I can see why she started this album here but I'm not really a fan of this

2. "Cruel Summer"

  • the single that should've been; I am forever upset that this song wasn't a single
  • "I don't want to keep secret just to keep you"
  • "And I scream 'For whatever it's worth, / I love you, ain't that the worst thing you ever heard?'"

3. "Lover"

  • "Can I go where you go? / Can we always be this close?"
  • "I take this magnetic force of a man / to be my lover"
    • "Gorgeous"
  • "With every guitar string on my my hand"
  • "And at every table / I'll save you a seat"
    • "The Story of Us"

4. "The Man"

  • I mean, yes, I fully understand what she's trying to say with this but...she's a white woman. Her experiences will never be the same as it would be for me.

5. "The Archer"

  • Listen, I just want everyone to know that "Cornelia Street" should've been the track 5 of this album. This song does have some great lyrics but it's not as emotional as that one.
  • "Cause cruelty wins in the movies"
  • "I've been the archer / I've been the prey / Who could ever leave me darling...but who could stay?"
  • "Cause all of my enemies / started out as friends"
    • "This Is Why We Can't Have Nice Things"
  • I love the build up that doesn't go anywhere because that arrow never hits the mark

6. "I Think He Knows"

  •  "Indigo eyes / We could follow the sparks I'll drive"
    • this reminds me of "Sparks fly" and all of the songs where she talks about blue eyes
  • this is such a fun song

7. "Miss Americana & the Heartbreak Prince"

  • meh

8. "Paper Rings"

  • "Now I wake up in the night and watch you breathe"
  • "I like shiny things / But I'd marry you with paper rings"
    • "King of My Heart" has "Say you fancy me, not fancy stuff"
  • "I hate accidents / Except when we went from friends to this"
  • "Honey, without all the exes, fights, and flaws / We wouldn't be standing here so tall"

9. "Cornelia Street"

  • Should've been track 5
    • Since Red Taylor Swift puts some of her most emotional songs as track #5
    • I like "The Archer" but this song is far more emotional in my opinion
  • "As if the streetlights pointed in an arrowhead / leading us home"
    • "Death By A Thousand Cuts"
  • "We were a fresh page on the desk / Filling in the blanks as we got"
    • "Blank Space"
  • "And I hope I never lose you / Hope it never ends / I'd never walk Cornelia Street again"
  • "Barefoot in the kitchen / Sacred new beginnings / That became my religion"
  • "I got mystified by how / this city screams you name"
  • Taylor wrote this all by herself (in a bathtub)

10. "Death by a Thousand Cuts"

  • "My, my, my" from "Mary's Song"
  • "I look through the windows of this love / Even though we boarded them up"
  • "If the story's over / Why am I still writing pages"
  • "My heart, my hips, my body, my love / Trying to find a part of me that you didn't touch"
  • "My time, my wine, my spirit, my trust / Trying to find a part of me you didn't take up"

11. "London Boy"

  • Oh, man this song is so much fun. I know a lot of people made fun of it--especially those from London--but I think it's such a catchy tune.
  • "I fancy you"
    • "Paper Rings" and "King of My Heart"

12. "Soon You'll Get Better" (featuring Dixie Chicks)

  •  This is not a song I can listen to often and I don't think there are words I can use to describe my feelings towards this song

13. "False God"

  •  "We were stupid to jump / In the ocean separating us"
  • "I know heaven's a thing / I go there when you touch me"
  • I really love this song. The jazz hints were so unexpected and by the time it was over, I wanted to listen to it again.

14. "You Need to Calm Down"

  •  moving on...

15. "Afterglow"

  • Another apology/ownership song?
  • "Fighting with a true love / is boxing with no gloves"
  • "Why'd I have to break what I love so much?"
  • "I lived like an island / Punished you with silence"
  • "I'm the one who burned us down"
  • "Sorry that I hurt you"

16. "Me!" (featuring Brendon Urie of Panic! at the Disco)

  • I love Brendon Urie but this song is so bad and I'm over it

17. "It's Nice to Have a Friend"

  • "Light pink sky, up on the roof"
    • "Cornelia Street"
    • "King of My Heart"
  • "To touch my hand"
    • "Gorgeous"
  • "Church bells ring, carry me home"
    • "Lover" and "Paper Rings"

18. "Daylight"

  • Also written entirely by Taylor Swift. I find that I love songs she writers entirely herself. She definitely has a magic with her song writing that I love.
  • "There are so many lines that I've crossed unforgiven"
  • "I wounded the good and I trusted the wicked"
    • "The Archer" with "All my enemies started out friends"
  • "I once believed love would be black and white"
    • Hello reputation
  • "I once believed love would be burning red"
    • I can't tell you guys how I felt when I heard this line! I love Red and this line was so unexpected
  • "But it's golden"
    • "Dancing With Our Hands Tied" with "Deep blue, but you painted me golden"
    • "invisible string" with "One single thread of gold Tied me to you"

I don't know how I feel about this album. If I'm being honest, I don't know if this album fits in well with her discography. I know that this album was very important to her and there are songs that I love--Cornelia Street is one of the best in all of her songs--and really appreciate. I know that a lot of her long time fans are not as in love with this album as others and I can see that.
