Rest and Rejuvenation Day 17: Writing Goals

Topic of the Day:
Finally writing that book

I knew that I wanted to focus more on my writing in 2021 after winning NaNoWriMo 2020. I regained a sense of purpose when it comes to writing. I genuinely have no idea what happened in November 2020 but I fell back in love with writing it. I finally understood why I love to write and what I want to write in the future. Taking both of these revelations into account, I created the following two goals.

Finish two manuscripts

This is going to be one of the hardest goals I have set myself this year. There’s nothing more terrifying to me than finishing a story because that is a form of closure unlike anything else. I know exactly which two manuscripts I want to finish by the end of 2021, but this vague goal allows that to change as well. As I’m sure many riders are aware, we are always getting new ideas. This goal allows me not only to work on the two specific manuscripts I have in mind but it also allows me to work on a new idea if it really catches me. I do plan on participating in NaNoWriMo once again so one of my two completed manuscripts could be written during that month.

Plot out entire historical romance series

I have had this idea for historical romance since high school. I actually wrote the opening scene as a screenplay for one of the prompts for my creative writing class. I knew that I wanted to write the story since then. I believe that this historical romance series is going to have 5 to 6 books and I only have 1 book completely outlined. One of the biggest struggles for me is going to be figuring out which tropes to use in each of the books and which order each of the stories will take place. As I have been working on the story since 2011/2012, I have a very good understanding of who each of my main characters are going to be and who their love interests are. I need to figure out everything else that happens between that.

I am honestly so excited to get working on both of these goals in 2021. I genuinely did not think I would ever get my lover for writing back in the way that I did but I am thankful that it’s here. It’s really interesting that there’s actually something that I am thankful for that happened in 2020 but this will definitely be one of them. I think both of these calls are doable and I think that if I broke them down well enough I could reach them easily. My first goal of writing two manuscripts this year could easily be reached if I wrote each manuscript for Camp NaNoWriMo and NaNoWriMo itself.

Do y'all have any writing goals? If so, what are they?
