Black History Month: Audre Lorde

Wednesday, February 10, 2021

I was first introduced to Audre Lorde in college during one of my Women and Gender Studies classes. I read her "Age, Race, Class and Sex: Women Redefining Difference" for a paper which led me to read a variety of other works by her.

A reminder to live in here and now, and never take things for granted.

This has been something I have had to remind myself constantly throughout the years. What I do or don't do in terms of self care can determine what kind of day I'm having. It become deeper than that, however, when you consider how society doesn't value taking care of ones self.

This is a key reminder to let go of the fear and stop allowing it to hold me back.

This is a stark reminder to use my voice as I see fit.

This is also very true. You have to be honest with yourself and what you want in your life. But you also have to hold yourself accountable.
