Black History Month: Ella Baker

Saturday, February 20, 2021

I was in college, in one of my African American Studies classes, where I was first introduced to Ella Baker. I heard about the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) that she was the founder. She was also influential in the NAACP and other organizations. She often worked behind the scenes in the organizations mentioned and among many of the well known Civil Rights activists. She spoke often about the sexism within the movement (as showcased by the lack of women who are credited for their work).
